Standards and Conventions
Common standards and conventions (e.g. uniform physical units and constants, homogeneous models for corrections and reductions) to be adopted and implemented by all components and services of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) form the fundamental basis for the generation of geodetic products that are characterized by highest consistency as required by IAG's Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS).
DGFI-TUM recognizes the importance of IAG's efforts to establish common standards and conventions for geodetic data analysis worldwide and is strongly engaged in these activities through its research.
Major topics and activities in this context are:
- to keep track of the observance of adopted geodetic standards and conventions applied by the IAG Services
- to review and evaluate all actual standards and conventions
- to identify gaps and to initiate steps to close them
- to propagate geodetic standards and conventions to the wider scientific community and promote their use.
DGFI-TUM operates the GGOS Bureau of Products and Standards (GGOS BPS) together with partners from the FGS. The GGOS BPS has been established as a component of GGOS to provide geodetic products with highest accuracy, consistency, temporal and spatial resolution referred to a unique and long-term stable reference frame.
